Youth, Agents of Change

Bahá’í Writings emphasise that “to every generation of young believers comes an opportunity to make a contribution to the fortunes of humanity, unique to their time of life”.   Youth are certainly the future but also the presents forces behind positive change in our communities, work places and global society.  The way they perceive themselves, their capacities and their role in society has therefore significant social consequences. The key questions are: How can the qualities of youth be enlisted in the process of community building and social transformation?  How can we encourage them along a path of selfless service to others? What are the moral, spiritual and intellectual principles that can best guide them?  Baha’s and like-minded collaborators are exploring these questions in neighbourhoods around the world.  One promising and emerging trend has been the development of upcoming generations where older youth are learning how to help younger youth to develop their personal capacities and attitudes required to contribute to social progress.
