The Local Spiritual Assemblies (LSAs) are elected by the Bahá’ís of their respective villages or towns. Bahá’u’lláh has ordained that a Spiritual Assembly must be elected in every locality where the number of adult Bahá’ís is nine or more. This Spiritual Assembly, as a body, will serve the local community to which it belongs. Their elections occur in an atmosphere of prayer where nominations, campaigning, and reference to the name of individuals is forbidden.
The LSAs are concerned with the well-being of the Bahá’i community and the wider community. ‘Abdu’l-Bahá has written that their discussions
