Although the Bahá’í community existed in the Hills Shire before then, the first Local Spiritual Assembly (LSA) of the Bahá’ís of Baulkham Hills was formed on the 22nd of November in 1974. The Council’s name for the Shire was changed to The Hills Shire Council in November 2008, and thus the Bahá’í community name changed from The Baulkham Hills Bahá’í Community to the present day Bahá’í Community of The Hills Shire.
Local Spiritual Assemblies, as part of the Bahá’í Administration, are formed in each local government areas, where the number of adult Bahá’ís (21 years or older) is nine or more.
There are always nine members serving a Local Spiritual Assembly.
The members of the first Bahá’í Spiritual Assembly of Baulkham Hills in 1974 were: Mr Joseph Salter (Vice-Chairman), Mrs Cassie Baumgartner (Secretary), Mrs Lorna Salter (Treasurer), Mrs Berly Hilditch, Dr Baher Forghani (Chairman), Mrs Nuriyyih Forghani, Dr Aziz Mihrshahi, Mrs Rezvanieh Vedadaghi, and Mr Monirollah Vedadaghi.
The Local Spiritual Assembly has been annually re-elected in April each year since the formation of the first LSA in 1974. The Bahá’í Community of the Hills Shire has been actively engaged with local activities, and services in the Shire including participation in: the annual Orange Blossom Festival, Tree Planting, Clean Up Australia campaign, Red Cross Door Knock Appeal, Senior Citizen Week, Special Religious Education (Scripture) in State Schools, Multi-Faith Gatherings, Community Building with special emphasis on the role of children and youth, and Devotional Meetings.
