The Universal Declaration of Human Rights marks a milestone in humanity’s collective efforts to bring about a more just and peaceful society. This undertaking has the potential to reverse the current trend of widespread discrimination, oppression and failure to uphold international law, which results in the suffering of millions and impedes human progress. It is estimated that over 70 million people worldwide are currently displaced as refugees with unacceptable living conditions. According to Bahá’u’lláh, “the best beloved of all things in My (God’s) sight is Justice”. Bahá’ís therefore maintain that human rights can and should be achieved within the family, the community, the nations and the whole planet.Bahá’is around the world in particular the International Bahá’i Community through its United Nations Offices has worked with NGOs and collaborated with the UN in an effort to strengthen the strategies by which the vision of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights can find full expression.
