The Bahá’ís of The Hills Shire are followers of Bahá’u’lláh (meaning the Glory of God) working to apply His teachings to their lives and communities and earnestly calling the residents of The Hills Shire and beyond to actively engage in mainstream local, national, and international collaboration towards the realisation of unity and world peace.
The history of the Bahá’í Community of The Hills Shire started to take shape in the early 1960s with the arrival of Bahá’ís from various parts of Australia and diverse Bahá’í immigrants to the Shire (formerly, Baulkham Hills). Since then, through their spiritual beliefs they have striven to demonstrate the oneness of humanity , a core principle of their faith, by seeking to eliminate racial prejudice, advancing the equality of women and men, and highly valuing and embracing unity in diversity.
Also, they have endeavoured to align themselves with other Bahá’í teaching principles such as the oneness of religion, the oneness of God, universal peace, universal education, harmony of science and religion, and individually and collectively walking on a path of service. They strongly believe that by serving together, there is an empowerment to persevere and make a difference.
The Hills Shire Bahá’ís are practically involved in building vibrant communities through children’s spiritual education , junior youth empowerment programs , youth activities, building devotional character of the individual and community at large, study circles, and involvement in community life.
Also, The Hills Shire Bahá’ís are Participating in Discourses of Society to share Bahá’í perspectives as well as to work closely with like-minded organisations to advance progress in areas of social cohesion, gender equality, the role of religion in the betterment of society, human rights and well-being of the humanity, and sustainability (economic, social and environmental sustainability).
The Bahá’í community functions through both Bahá’í Teachings and Bahá’í administration. An annually elected Local Spiritual Assembly (LSA) is the main governing body of the community in each local government council area.
